The School of Philosophy is the most important teaching and research center for philosophy at the University of Costa Rica in particular, and in Costa Rica in general. ‘Philosophy’, however, is to be understood in a broad sense, given that historically the most diverse philosophical perspectives have been represented in our school: whether continental, analytic, or Ibero-American. In the subsequent historical development of our school, this plurality of approaches and forms of comprehending and practicing philosophy has been maintained. In fact, the interests and areas of specialization of our teaching and research staff show a remarkable and varied range of philosophical, scientific, historical, and interdisciplinary topics. And the academic structure of the School covers a wide range of metatheorical, theoretical, and practical aspects of philosophy, as well as those aspects focused on specific problems, which constitute the philosophical enterprise.

Our professional and refereed journal, Revista de Filosofía de la Universidad de Costa Rica, has been published uninterruptedly since 1957 and is one of the oldest philosophy journals in Spanish in the American continent. Members of our academic and teaching staff have been significant figures who have shaped decisively the national debate in Costa Rica.

Apart from the usual academic products like books, papers, and public presentations, the School of Philosophy disseminates its activities as podcasts and videos in its YouTube channel.
